Rose, Swamp

Rosa palustris
An upright bushy plant up to 7' tall. The reddish stems have stout, curved, broad-based thorns. The pinnate leaves have 7-9 toothed leaflets. The stipules are as long as the leaf stalks, have hairy margins and slender spreading tips. The fragrant 1 1/2-2 1/2" flowers have 5 broad pink petals. The 5 sepals are sweptback. Blooms June-August in swamps, other wet places.
