Madder, Blue Field

Sherardia arvensis
A prostrate 2-10" plant with a slender, roughish stem. The leaves are in whorls of 4-6 and have tiny sharp tips. The small, bluish flowers are in heads on slender stalks surrounded by 6-8 green bracts. The funnel-shaped corolla has 4 or 5 lobes. Blooms June-September in fields, roadsides, waste places.
