Jewelweed, Pale/ Pale Touch-Me-Not

Impatiens pallida
A 3-6' plant with a succulent translucent stem that exudes watery juice when broken. The stalked leaves are ovate and toothed. The 1" yellow, reddish-brown dotted flowers are complex. There are 5 sepals; the anterior one is notched and petal-like, the 2 laterals are green, and the posterior 2 are fused into a petal-like sac, wider than long, and with a short posterior spur that curves forward abruptly. There are also 5 petals. The ripe seedpods pop when touched, splitting into 5 tightly curled valves and scattering the seeds. Blooms July-October in moist woods, other wet shady places.
