Cohosh, Blue

Caulophyllum thalictroides
A 1-3' plant with triple-compound leaves. The 3 leaflets are shallowly lobed at the end like a meadow rue. The stem is purplish and with a bloom. The 3/4" nodding flowers are in clusters and are often concealed by the drooping leaves. There are 6 yellowish-green or brownish-purple petal-like sepals and 6 very short petals. Blooms April, May in rich woods. The later appearing berries are deep blue.
