Bluebells, Virginia/ Virginia Cowslip/ Mertensia

Mertensia virginica
A smooth, upright 1-2' plant. The alternate leaves are oval, strongly veined and smooth-edged. The showy flowers are in nodding clusters. The buds are pink and the trumpet-shaped 1" flowers have a blue, 5-lobed corolla. Blooms April-May in moist, open woods, sometimes in sizeable patches.
