Aster, Panicled

Aster simplex
A smooth, upright 2-5' plant. The long, slender sessile leaves taper at both ends and are usually sparsely toothed. The short, flowering side branches have similar shaped but smaller leaves. The white (rarely blue) 3/4-1" flowers have 20-30 rays and a yellow disc. The linear bracts have a green midrib and lie flat. Blooms August-October in damp areas, marshes, thickets.
